Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School
Class Of 1963

Welcome to the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High Class Of 1963 web site. It is with deep regret that we pass along the following:

Margaret White Hughes

Margaret White Hughes, 77, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023.  Margy was born in New York City to Patricia and Paul White.  Shortly after, they moved to Fair Haven, NJ where she was raised.  She attended Rumson Fair Haven High School and then went on to Mount Holyoke College.  At a party just before starting college, Margy met Kevin Hughes, a student at Dartmouth College, who would later become her husband. He wrote her a letter just after she arrived as a freshman on the Mount Holyoke campus, invited her to a dance, and they were together ever after.

After a few years teaching in New England, Margy and Kevin settled back in Fair Haven, NJ to raise their two children. During that time, Margy devoted herself to many volunteer causes notably the Junior League of Monmouth County where she was honored as Junior Leaguer of the Year, and St. George’s by the River Episcopal Church where she served in many roles from Canterbury Fair Chairwoman to warden.

Later, she would return to her real calling - the classroom.  Margy taught literature and language arts at Rumson Country Day School for over 20 years until her retirement in 2011. Margy and Kevin enjoyed spending time in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire skiing and hiking and eventually retired to New Hampshire where she lived until recently.

Margy was an avid and accomplished needlepointer and knitter. Her beautiful sweaters and hats live on as the gifts she gave to family and friends and as the donations she made to newborns at local hospitals.

She is predeceased by her husband and survived by her brother, Paul White of Newtown Square, PA, her two children: Patty Whittemore of Oceanport, NJ, Nick (Megan) Hughes of Potsdam, NY, and seven grandchildren:  Maggie Whittemore, Ty Whittemore, Abby Hughes, Nate Whittemore, Theo Hughes, Owen Hughes and Issac Hughes.

Services will be held at a later date. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

(from Gary Delatush, 10/22/23)

Good  Morning all,

Just a short note to let you know that I just found out that Jeff Jackson passed away this week, he had been married to  Martha ":maude" Munger.

A few years ago Sean Dowd and I had played a round of golf with him, he was a good guy. He had a 3 year bout with ALS disease.

May he Rest in Peace

Gary
